José is a Professor Adjunto at the Engineering School of the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon (ISEL // IPL), where he teachs in the areas of distributed systems, cloud computing and computer security. He holds a PhD in Informatics and Computer Engineering from ULisboa (IST), supervised by Prof Luís Veiga, and is a researcher at INESC-ID Lisboa with the Distributed Systems Group. At ISEL, he is a member of Future Internet Technologies (FIT), a research group with a strong connection to society.

His research is focused on cloud infrastructure and services, particularly Serverless architectures, and computer security, with an emphasis on software techniques for vulnerability detection. He has published 10 journal articles and book chapters, as well as more than 20 IEEE and ACM conference papers. He is currently a member of the coordination board of the computer engineering and informatics bachelor (LEIC) and master (MEIC) degrees at ISEL.
